About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to play a central role in architecting, optimizing, and maintaining the stability of mission-critical PostgreSQL database environments.

In this role, you will use deep expertise in PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, database high availability, replication, disaster recovery, and performance optimization to build and maintain robust data systems at scale.

This is an opportunity for an experienced database engineer who is passionate about database reliability, high-availability architecture, performance engineering, and large-scale cloud-native infrastructure and who can thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage highly available and resilient PostgreSQL database architectures using AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Optimize database performance by analyzing query execution plans, tuning indexes, and implementing advanced partitioning strategies.

• Ensure disaster recovery readiness through robust backup, replication, recovery, and failover processes.

• Diagnose and resolve slow queries, database locks, deadlocks, and complex performance bottlenecks affecting large-scale databases.

• Automate routine database maintenance tasks and promote operational excellence across database environments.

• Support database reliability and performance as applications and workloads scale.

• Collaborate cross-functionally on new features, data migrations, and application scaling initiatives.

• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation.

• Communicate clearly and proactively with technical and cross-functional teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases in production environments.

• Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and replication.

• Proven hands-on experience with AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, including backup, recovery, and high-availability architecture.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills involving slow queries, execution plans, locks, deadlocks, and database bottlenecks.

• Demonstrated experience maintaining large-scale, high-traffic databases with millions of rows.

• Strong attention to clear, proactive written and verbal communication.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a remote team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting data platforms, analytics workloads, ETL processes, and operational databases.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including Terraform.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with cloud-native service environments.

• Exposure to modern data architectures.

• Experience with advanced database and infrastructure monitoring tools.

Compensation

The national base salary range for this full-time position is:

$120,000–$150,000 per year

Employees are eligible for equity compensation and may also receive performance-based bonuses, depending on the role and applicable company policies.
