About the Role

We are seeking a Certified Inpatient Medical Coder to support a project focused on improving medical data accuracy, coding quality, and healthcare data integrity.

You will use your inpatient coding expertise to review medical records, validate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding, assess clinical documentation, and evaluate AI-generated clinical content against real-world coding standards. Your work will help improve how next-generation AI systems understand and process complex healthcare information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient medical records for accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding according to current guidelines and best practices.

  • Assess clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and coding integrity.

  • Identify and sequence principal and secondary diagnoses according to Official Guidelines.

  • Assign Present on Admission (POA) indicators.

  • Validate MS-DRG assignments, including CC and MCC identification.

  • Identify and flag Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs) and relevant patient safety indicators.

  • Evaluate AI-generated clinical notes and summaries against source documentation and coding standards.

  • Code AI-generated diagnostic and procedural information using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.

  • Identify and resolve diagnosis and procedure coding discrepancies.

  • Provide clear written feedback on coding errors, complex cases, and areas requiring improvement.

  • Support accurate record abstraction and healthcare data capture.

Qualifications

  • Active CIC, CCS, or another recognized AHIMA or AAPC coding credential, such as RHIA, RHIT, or COC.

  • Hands-on inpatient ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding experience.

  • Strong understanding of inpatient records, diagnosis sequencing, POA indicators, MS-DRG, CCs, MCCs, and coding guidelines.

  • Access to current official ICD-10-CM/PCS coding resources and AHA Coding Clinic guidance.

  • Current or recent experience in inpatient medical coding, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), or a closely related documentation role.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify coding discrepancies.

  • Clear written communication and ability to explain complex coding decisions.

  • Availability for at least 10 hours per week.
