Annualized Compensation: $172,800–$336,000 per year

Hourly Rate: $90–$175 per hour

The annualized figure is based on 40 hours per week and 48 working weeks per year. Actual earnings will depend on completed tasks, project workload, and time required per assignment.

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Security Onion Specialists to contribute practical cybersecurity expertise to a specialized project focused on advancing security operations and threat detection capabilities.

You will work directly within Security Onion to complete security investigation workflows, analyze alerts and logs, demonstrate technical procedures, and document your approach through screen recordings and structured evaluation criteria. Your work will help develop high-quality training data for next-generation AI systems.

This engagement is suited to professionals who combine hands-on Security Onion experience with strong technical documentation and communication skills. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete assigned workflows and tasks within Security Onion using practical cybersecurity expertise.

• Navigate platform features for network monitoring, alert investigation, log analysis, threat detection, and incident response.

• Analyze security alerts, network traffic, logs, and other relevant security data.

• Record screen sessions while completing assigned workflows, clearly demonstrating the steps taken.

• Develop realistic prompts and detailed evaluation rubrics based on completed workflows.

• Document investigation procedures and explain the tools, platform features, and techniques used.

• Review and evaluate task outputs for technical accuracy and alignment with project guidelines.

• Follow project instructions and established quality standards.

• Work independently in a remote environment while maintaining accurate, well-documented deliverables.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience using Security Onion for cybersecurity operations, security monitoring, threat detection, or incident investigation.

• Practical ability to navigate Security Onion and complete technical workflows independently.

• Ability to analyze security alerts, network traffic, logs, and investigation findings.

• Ability to document technical procedures clearly and explain investigation steps.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Ability to create structured prompts and evaluation rubrics based on completed workflows.

• Comfort with screen recording and sharing demonstrations of technical work.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and meet project quality requirements while working independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with human data projects, including data annotation, data labeling, RLHF, AI response evaluation, or model evaluation.

• Current access to Security Onion and the ability to use the application independently.

• Experience documenting cybersecurity workflows for technical review, training, or evaluation.

• Strong ability to explain complex technical processes in a clear, concise, and structured manner.
