Photo and Visual Editors - Remote

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Photo and Visual Editors to support professional image evaluation, selection, editing and retouching projects. This opportunity is suited to professionals with a strong eye for visual quality, technical accuracy and image composition, who can assess images against specific creative or editorial requirements.

You will review collections of photographs, identify the strongest images for different purposes, evaluate technical and visual quality, detect edits that may misrepresent an image, and make corrections or retouching adjustments based on project briefs. You will also provide clear written explanations of your decisions, demonstrating sound visual judgment and attention to detail.

Candidates with backgrounds in photo editing, picture editing, visual production, retouching, photo journalism, digital media or commercial photography may be well suited to this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Image Selection and Evaluation: Review sets of photographs and select the strongest images based on their relevance, composition, clarity and suitability for the intended purpose.

• Technical Quality Assessment: Evaluate exposure, focus, sharpness, color accuracy, image noise, cropping, lighting and overall presentation.

• Visual Accuracy and Integrity: Identify images that have been manipulated or altered in ways that materially change their original content or meaning.

• Caption and Content Verification: Check whether image captions, descriptions and supporting information accurately represent the visual content.

• Photo Editing and Retouching: Make corrections and enhancements in accordance with supplied briefs, including color adjustments, exposure correction, cropping and other appropriate refinements.

• Editorial Judgment: Assess whether images meet the visual, editorial and quality standards required for their intended use.

• Decision Documentation: Write concise explanations for image selections, quality assessments and editing decisions so that reviewers can understand the reasoning behind your work.

• Consistency and Quality Control: Apply project guidelines consistently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Professional experience as a Photo Editor, Picture Editor, Visual Editor, Retoucher, Photo Producer or in a closely related role.

• Practical experience selecting, reviewing, editing or retouching images for professional use.

• Proficiency with professional image-editing applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom or Capture One.

• Strong understanding of photographic principles, including composition, exposure, focus, lighting, color balance, sharpness and image quality.

• Experience preparing or delivering visual content for at least one professional environment, such as print publications, websites, social media, broadcast media, advertising or brand communications.

• Ability to distinguish technically sound images from those with visual or editing deficiencies.

• Good judgment when assessing image authenticity, accuracy and suitability for a particular purpose.

• Strong written English communication skills, with the ability to explain visual decisions clearly and concisely.

• High attention to detail and the ability to follow editing guidelines and project instructions.

Preferred Background

Experience in editorial photography, publishing, digital content production, advertising, media, e-commerce, brand communications or commercial photography is beneficial. Candidates who regularly work with large image collections and make independent decisions about image selection and quality are particularly encouraged to apply.
